While many visitors to Nantucket are drawn to the island's beauty and isolation, others go to explore by boat, smell the sea air, and perhaps imagine themselves looking for buried treasure. Tomorrow marks the anticipated reopening of the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum after an extensive $3 million renovation, which will surely entice even more seafarers to the island.
The museum hosts a collection of over 5,000 objects that include period surfboards, beach crafts, vintage photographs, and all things that celebrate rescues and heroism at sea. An exciting new feature of the museum will include family-friendly programming that appeals to all ages.
The Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum is easy to get to - just 3.5 miles from Nantucket Town. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 5-18, and free to children under 5. For more information please call 508-228-1885, or visit online.
