Boston venues hosting Halloween parties, costume contests, more

Whether you're looking for a retro-inspired shindig or an over-the-top bash this Halloween, we've got you covered in our list of Boston events happening from Oct. 25-Nov. 1.

The Haunted Villa Halloween Blowout, Oct. 26
The Villa Victoria is offering a 5-hour open bar, a trio of DJs, and cash prizes for costumes during their Friday night blowout. The converted South End church is sure to help you make some Hallow-memories for years to come. Tickets are $85 (or $40 for designated drives) at Ticketleap.

11th Annual Mayhem and Madness Halloween Bash, Oct. 26
McGann's has sold out its Halloween party for the past ten years, so we're guessing it might reach capacity this year. It's just a hunch. The bar is charging between $35 and $50, depending on when you buy your ticket, which will get you five drinks. Other reasons to attend: cash prizes for costumes (contest at 11 p.m.), psychics from 8-10 p.m., complimentary appetizers, and free candy. Oh, and a DJ. Definitely sounds like a party. This indoor booze (BOOze) cruise sets sail on its fifth annual voyage Saturday, Oct. 26 , from Boston's 200 Seaport Blvd. Boarding starts at 6 p.m. and the boat docks at 10 p.m., leaving plenty of time to head to other events in the area. Things to know: the event promoters expect 700+ attendees, so space may be tight. There is a cash bar, and all ticket sales ($30 general admission) are final. They can be purchased online through Eventbrite, where you can get all the gory deets.

Spooky Tune Tuesday at dbar, Oct. 29
If show tunes and Halloween had a baby, it would be Spooky Tune Tuesday. The best interpretations of Halloween-themed show tunes-turned-costumes will be awarded $500 in prizes. Doors are at 9 p.m. and there is no cover charge.

Stuffed & Slashed Halloween at Blue ('Boo') Inc., Oct. 29
Still have your parachute pants? What about your denim overalls? Break those babies out and call up Zack Morris, for this '90s-inspired romp. Blue will be serving complimentary hors d'oeuvres, including candy corn dipping dots (hello, delicious) and specialty cocktails will be available at the bar. Doors are at 8 p.m.

The Boston Halloween PubCrawls, various dates
Hosted by, the events are taking place Saturday, Oct. 26, Thursday, Oct. 31, and Friday, Nov. 1. Pub crawl-goers can purchase three-day tickets for $15, or one-day, individual tickets for $10 each. Daily access will be granted to Faneuil Hall-area bars Mija Cantina, Stadium Sports Bar & Grill, and Kitty O'Shea's Irish Pub with the proper ticket. Head to for tickets and more details.

5th Annual Halloween Weekend Blowout at Landsdowne Pub, several dates
Landsdowne Pub is offering something for everyone this Halloween. On Thursday, Oct. 31, patrons of the Fenway bar can listen to music from Bearfight during The Halloween Ball. Get out your trucker hats and camouflage for the White Trash Party with Dalton and the Sheriffs on Friday, Nov. 1, and on Saturday, Nov. 2, it's time to don your best disco duds with the Boston Common Band. RadioBDC Retro Halloween Ball, Oct. 31faneuil.jpg's in-house radio station will be hosting its second consecutive Halloween bash at Ned Devine's in Faneuil Hall this year. DJ Julie Kramer will be on deck spinning your favorite throwback dance tunes, and prizes will be awarded. Did we mention the event is free? Learn more at Eventbrite.

Local 149's Halloween Party, Oct. 31
If you're planning to be in Southie on Halloween, check out Local 149 where spooky bar bites will be available from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., or try a Blumpkin for $6 at the bar. Costumes aren't necessary, but are suggested.

The Misfits at The Wilbur Theatre, Oct. 31
Fans of The Misfits are in for a treat this Halloween. The 1977-founded group will be in town to play a show at the Wilbur that evening (8 p.m.), and we'd put money on them playing their song Halloween. Tickets are available at the Wilbur's website and range in price from $25-$35.

Fear at The Revere, Oct. 31
The Revere will host what could be an epic smash this year at Space 57 inside the hotel. Why epic? Because they're offering $2,500 for costume prizes. There will be 6,700 square feet of ghouls and goblins, according to the event listing, so dress to impress. General admission tickets are $25 until Oct. 21.

This Back Bay bar is hosting a Mexican-themed decadent Day of the Dead party on Halloween with sounds by Kupah James. Complimentary appetizers will be passed until 10 p.m., Josh Jamison will be crafting specialty cocktails, and you can savor the evening in the available photo booth. Don't slouch with your costumes here, folks: $500 in cash will be available for the best costume. General admission tickets are $35 on Eventbrite, but if you're feeling fancy, VIP packages are available for $800-$1,200.

The Hawthorne's Halloween Bash, Oct. 31
For $25 (plus a $2.37 fee), Halloweeners can experience festivities at The Hawthorne. The Boston favorite is asking attendees to dress as their favorite cocktail and offering classic favorites like bobbing for apples, punch, and snacks. Yuo can get your tickets through Eventbrite.

Sinners & Saints Halloween Cruise, Oct. 31
If you're looking to head out on the water and celebrate on the actual holiday, the Sinners & Saints Halloween Cruise is the perfect fit. The tickets are $40 ahead of time at the event's website, and Living Social is offering a 50 percent discount on tickets ($20) for a limited time. The boat boards at 7 p.m. and leaves promptly at 8 p.m. for three ghostly hours at sea. More than $1000 in costume prizes will be awarded. Check out for tickets and info.

Ducali's Ducaloween, Oct. 31
If you're planning to grab a bite in the North End before hitting the town (and you're in costume), stop by Ducali on Causeway Street and get judged for top get-up. One lucky guy and gal will win a $50 gift card to Ducali Pizzeria. The party starts at 8 p.m.

Steve Aoki and Waka Flocka Flame at House of Blues, Oct. 31houseofblues.jpg
Electronic dance music (EDM) heavyweight Steve Aoki and hip-hop artist Waka Flocka will be in the Hub on Halloween, playing a show at the House of Blues on Landsdowne Street. Doors are at 7 p.m. with an 8 p.m. start time. Tickets range from $46.80 to $62.25 and can be purchased through the Live Nation.
Note: This show was originally scheduled at Worcester's DCU Center. If you purchased tickets before it was transferred, your tickets will be honored at the event.

LoVeSeXy at the Hard Rock, Nov. 1
If you plan on dressing up as Prince for Halloween, you'll certainly have to make a stop at the Hard Rock on Nov. 1, where a tribute band called LoVeSeXy will play his biggest hits.
