Julia Child's 100th birthday on Aug. 15

Chef extraordinaire Julia Child would have become a centenarian this week. She may not be here to join us, but we can still celebrate with the things she loved so much -- good French food and wine. Cambridge mainstay Upstairs on the Square is dedicating their Restaurant Week menus to Julia Child while Harvest is hosting a Tribute to Julia Child at 100. More local chefs, foodies, and wine purveyors will offer the following specialty menus and events:

Julia Child's 100th Birthday Celebration Ten French wines will be poured and some of Child's best moments will be shared. Aug. 15, 5-7 p.m. BRIX Wine Shop, 105 Broad St., Boston.

A Tribute to Julia Child at 100 Chef Mary Dumont honors Child with a special four-course dinner with wine pairings that includes Salade Nicoise (with quail egg), Heirloom Tomato Provençale, Caneton aux Peche, and Queen of Sheba Cake. Aug. 15-16, 5:30-10 p.m. Aug. 17-18, 5:30-11 p.m. $44, $15-$25 wine pairings. Harvest, 44 Brattle St., Cambridge.

Happy 100th Birthday Julia Start off with passed hors 'doeuvres then move on to a four-course seated dinner with wine pairings featuring some of Child's most beloved recipes. The menu includes Heirloom Tomato Provençal, Bourride, Saddle of Lamb, and Baked Alaska. Aug. 15, 6:30-10 p.m. $165. Menton, 354 Congress St., Boston.

Teen Julia Child cooking class Create a Cook in Newton will host a teen cooking class on Aug. 23 where aspiring chefs can learn to make some of Julia Child's classic dishes, like Poulet Sauté aux Herbes de Provence, Crepes De Pommes De Terre, and Tomates A La Provencale. Aug. 23, 5:30-8:30 p.m. $80. Create a Cook, 53 Winchester St., Newton.
