Thanks to a $654,000 makeover, the Brewer Fountain on Boston Common is ready for action. The 19th-century bronze, cast iron, and granite landmark was dismantled, restored, and reassembled, and on May 26 at 3 p.m. Mayor Menino will host a re-opening celebration. When you stop by, check out the river stones in the granite basin and the refurbished lights -- but you'll have to imagine the underground vault which houses the pumps, water filter, and vents.
