No 16: Matt Brown paralyzedDuring a Jan. 23 game between Norwood and Weymouth high schools, Norwood hockey player Matt Brown broke his third and fourth cervical vertebrae after crashing into the boards, leaving him paralyzed. After the injury, grade-schoolers painted Browns No. 3 on their cheeks, and youth hockey players ironed his jersey number beside their own. All over town, businesses posted get-well messages by roadsides, drawing honks from passing drivers. In May, Brown returned to visit his school for the first time after his accident. In September, Brown was able to move the second and third toe on his right foot.
We just stood there watching him move his toes a few times, Matt's father Michael said. We hope its the start of the body awakening. Its just amazing to see.
