Bishop Feehan

  • Last year's record: 5-6
  • Strength: Sizable junior and senior classes.
  • Concerns: Replacing offensive production.
  • Coach: Curt Smith (2nd season, 16-7 career record through two seasons (coached the 2004 season, took five seasons off, resumed in 2010))
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 3 lettermen
    • James Corbesero, RB/LB, Senior, 5-9, 195
    • Tim Dunn, G/DE, Senior, 6-2, 214
    • Edward Giles, OL/DE, Senior, 6-2, 225

The major question mark for the Shamrocks will be who replaces the production of graduated senior O'Brian McHayle? Last season the running back led Feehan in scoring by finding the end zone 23 times, accounting for most of his team's offense. Coach Curt Smith is likely to turn to senior back James Corbesero, who found the end zone once last season but should get plenty more carries this fall. Getting off to a better start this season will be a key as well. Last year the Shamrocks began their 2010 campaign by dropping their first five games before bouncing back to win five of their final six. If Feehan can start its season with a few wins under its belt it should again challenge Somerset for Eastern Athletic supremacy.

Bishop Stang

  • Last year's record: 5-6
  • Strength: Tough team with desire to win.
  • Concerns: Depth at every position.
  • Coach: William Kavanaugh (5th season, 15-26 career record)

  • showReturning: 15 lettermen
    • Jason Beauregard, OL/DL, Senior, 6-3, 180

    • Mike Bevilacqua, QB/DB, Senior, 6-2, 170
    • Matt Burchill, WR/DB, Senior, 5-10, 165
    • Nate Cannon, OL/DL, Senior, 5-11, 215
    • Thomas Eccleston, WR/DB, Senior, 5-10, 160
    • Will Gaudreau, OL/LB, Senior, 5-9, 180
    • Richard Gralton, OL/DE, Senior, 6-2, 200
    • Ryan Leung, RB/LB, Senior, 5-10, 180

    • Kevin Reardon, OL/DL, Senior, 6-2, 290
    • Logan Sullo, RB/DB, Senior, 5-9, 190

The Spartans posted a three-win improvement by going 5-6 last season, and coach Bill Kavanaugh will look for more improvement from his squad this season. Senior back Logan Sullo will garner the majority of carries in Stang's pistol offense after scoring 11 touchdowns last season. Junior tight end Charles McKeeman brings versatility to the offense with his size (6-foot-3) as both a lead blocker and a pass catcher. Also returning as a weapon in the passing game is senior receiver Alec Mahoney. Defensively, the team will continue to employ multiple defensive looks to confuse opposing offenses. In Stang's five wins last season the defense surrendered a total of 16 points, including two shutouts.

Coyle & Cassidy

  • Last year's record: 0-11
  • Strength: Returning offensive line, veteran quarterback.
  • Concerns: Defensive maturity.
  • Coach: Thomas Pileski (6th season, 20-35 career record)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 5 lettermen
    • Ryan Feeney, QB/DB, Senior, 5-11, 175
    • Dylan Greene, QB/DB, Junior, 5-9, 145
    • James Keating, TE/DE, Junior, 6-3, 200
    • Matthew Perkins, WR/LB, Senior, 6-0, 175
    • Andrew Rodriguez, RB/DB, Senior, 6-0, 185

Though the Warriors finished without a win last season, coach Thomas Pileski believes that last season was an exception. "I'm trying to get across to my players that last year was an anomaly," he said. "I really believe we've paid our dues by getting some younger players some experience and letting them grow last year, and I think we're ready to turn the corner." Pileski's offense, a mix of pro I and spread, will be led by senior quarterback Ryan Feeney, a three-year starter. Last season the 5-foot-11 signal caller threw for 1,150 yards and nine touchdown passes while completing 54 percent of his passes. He will be aided on the ground by classmate Andrew Rodriguez, who led the team in rushing last season and scored three touchdowns. While the offense should be solid, the defense will be the question mark as opponents scored a total of 479 points against the Warriors, an average of nearly 44 per game.

Martha's Vineyard

  • Last year's record: 7-3
  • Strength: Defensive front, experienced offensive line, strong running game.
  • Concerns: Defensive secondary, receiving corps, kicking game.
  • Coach: Donald Herman (25th season, 214-80 overall, 202-62 at MV)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 13 lettermen
    • Doug Andrade, RB/LB, Junior, 5-9, 177
    • Delmont Araujo, QB/DE, Senior, 6-2, 220
    • Tyler Araujo, RB/DL, Senior, 5-10, 238
    • Ramon Espino, TE/DL, Senior, 5-10, 200
    • Stuart Hersh, RB/LB, Junior, 5-11, 165
    • Jeremy Maciel, TE/LB, Senior, 6-1, 183
    • Denver Maciel, SE/LB, Senior, 5-10, 160
    • Michael Montanile, OL/LB, Senior, 5-7, 185
    • Max Moreis, OL/DL, Senior, 6-3, 267
    • Jack O'Malley, OL/LB, Junior, 6-1, 175
    • Conor Smith, OL/LB, Senior, 5-11, 184
    • Kevin Walsh, OL/DL, Senior, 5-11, 230
    • Harry West, OL/DL, Junior, 5-11, 220

Despite having only 52 players last season the Vineyarders had a solid 7-3 showing last season, and this season coach Donald Herman and company will be looking for more. The squad is led by senior cousins Delmont and Tyler Araujo, both of whom are three-year starters. While Tyler is the workhorse running back, Delmont is making the switch from tight end to quarterback and must quickly master the team's option attack. Senior fullback Max Moreis is back healthy this fall after undergoing back-to-back shoulder surgeries and will be expected to give his team a boost. A more experienced offensive line is led by seniors Michael Montanile and Conor Smith.

Somerset Berkley

  • Last year's record: 12-1
  • Strength: Deep junior and senior class.
  • Concerns: Lack of experience, loss of big senior class.
  • Coach: Nick Freitas (3rd season, 20-4 record through two seasons)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

A dream season ended in bitter defeat last season for Somerset when the Blue Raiders fell short of winning the Division 3 Super Bowl, falling to Beverly, 28-20, at Gillette Stadium. Third-year coach Nick Freitas will have a lot of work to do as his team must find replacements for graduated seniors Seth DeMello and Jaron Spear, who combined to score 47 touchdowns last season. "We're going to have to do a better job at executing our plays, staying in coverage, and tackling the ball carrier on defense," he said. "We have to make sure we are solid in our fundamentals because we can't rely on only a few players to make all the plays." Andy Wood will be one option in the backfield for Somerset, while Pat Monahan will lead the way by blocking at the line of scrimmage.
