Athletes of the Year

Andrea Keklak

Division 1: Lincoln-Sudbury, Junior
Keklak saved her best for last this season, capturing the Division 1 All-State title in Northfield with a time of 19:00.5, an improvement on her Division 1 EMass championship time of 19:26 at Franklin Park. The Dual County League All-Star also finished fourth (18:08) at the Brown Invitational.

Alanna Poretta

Division 2: Pentucket, Senior
A two-time All-Scholastic, Poretta took home the top spot in the Division 2 All-States with a time of 19:08.8 in Northfield. She also won the McIntyre Invitational, and was undefeated in Cape Ann League dual meets. The reigning Division 3 state mile champion outdoors will attend Boston College.


Monica Adler

Beverly, Senior
The school record-holder in the mile, Adler raced to a second-place finish in the Division 2 EMass meet at Franklin Park. She also finished fourth at the State Coaches meet, and ninth at All-States. An outstanding student with a 4.3 GPA, she will run next year at Dartmouth.

Megan Barry

Dennis-Yarmouth, Senior
The D-Y course record-holder, and four-year Atlantic Coast League All-Star, Barry was unbeaten for two years in dual meets. She finished second at the Amherst Invitational, and sixth at the McIntyre, Division 2 EMass, and Division 1 All-States this season. She also competes in spring and winter track.

Kate Bulger

Phillips Andover, Junior
The top finisher of 74 runners at the New England Prep meet with a time of 20:30, Bulger helped lead Andover to its fifth straight team championship. She also was the Division 2 NE Prep 1,500 and 3,000 champion last spring.

Zoe Bulger

Winsor, Junior
A Division 2 All-New England selection for the fourth straight year, Bulger finished third at the New England meet this season after winning the Shaler Invitational. Her twin sister Kate is an All-Scholastic at Phillips Andover.

Jenna Davidner

Oliver Ames, Senior
The undefeated, four-time Hockomock League MVP leaves with a host of honors, including first at the McIntyre Invitational and second at the Brown Invitational, setting a 5K school record. She also took the top spot at the Division 2 EMass race at Franklin Park before an injury ended her season.

Christine Davis

Acton-Boxborough, Freshman
Only a freshman, Davis proved to be ready for the big stage with a third-place finish at All-States, coming in at 19:14, an improvement on her seventh-place spot at the EMass meet. Set a personal record of 18:59 at the Oceanstone Invitational and was fourth in the DCL meet.

Margo Gillis

Newton North, Junior
In her first year of cross-country, Gillis won the Bay State Conference and Northfield Invitational, finished second at the McIntyre Invitational, second at the Division 1 EMass meet, and eighth at All-States. She is a Nike Track All-American and the reigning 800-meter state champion.

Viviana Hanley

Bishop Feehan, Junior
Hanley's sixth-place finish at the Northeast Regionals in New York helped the Shamrocks qualify for the Foot Locker Nationals in Oregon. Her third-place finish at All-States helped clinch the Division 2 team championship. The Eastern Athletic Conference All-Star finished second (19:20) at the Division 3 EMass meet.

Alison Lanois

Hamilton-Wenham, Junior
The winner of the Bay State Invitational with a time of 19:27, Lanois had a host of other accomplishments, including third at the McIntyre Invitational, and second in the Cape Ann League. Her fourth place at All-States helped Hamilton-Wenham to a second-place team finish in Division 2.

Erin Murphy

Bishop Feehan, Senior
After helping to win the Division 2 state title, Murphy and the Shamrocks captured the Northeast team title in New York. Murphy was consistent all year, finishing third at the EMass meet, fifth at the Bay State, and fourth at the McIntyre Invitational.

Kathy O'Keefe

Newton South, Junior
A sixth-place finish from O'Keefe at All-States helped lift Newton South to a runner-up team finish. A Dual County League All-Star, O'Keefe finished third at the EMass Division 1 meet. She also runs indoor and outdoor track for the Lions.

Marissa Shoji

Nobles, Junior
The ISL's cross-country MVP was undefeated during the regular season, leading Nobles to an undefeated season as well. She broke four course records this fall and finished second at the ISL championships, and first at the New Englands. She is a two-time All-Scholastic.

Julie Solimine

Haverhill, Junior
The two-time Merrimack Valley Conference Runner of the Year led Haverhill to an undefeated dual-meet season. She won the Catholic Memorial Invitational in 18:58.6, finished sixth at the EMass race, and fourth at the All-States. She also runs indoor and outdoor track for the Hillies.

Corey Stock

Lincoln-Sudbury, Sophomore
Along with fellow All-Scholastic Andrea Keklak, Stock helped lift the Warriors to a Division 1 state title with her fifth-place finish at the All-State meet in Northfield with a time of 19:32. The Dual County League All-Star also finished eighth at the Brown Invitational.

Lindsay Walsh

Swampscott, Senior
Walsh captured the Division 3 EMass title at Franklin Park, and followed that with a second-place finish at Division 2 All-States. The Northeastern Conference Runner of the Year and two-time conference champion also is the reigning Division 4 indoor and outdoor mile champion.

Coach of the Year

Henry Phelan

Lincoln-Sudbury, , Division 1
In just his second season, Phelan guided the Warriors to a host of titles, including the DCL, Brown Invitational and EMass titles. But topping the list was winning the Division 1 All-State meet. Prior to taking over at L-S Phelan was a four-time Division 2 state champion at Bromfield.

Dale Snyder

Milton, , Division 3
It has been a year of honors for Snyder, who was inducted into the MSTCA Hall of Fame in 2009. The 30-year coaching veteran led the Wildcats to a second straight undefeated dual meet record, a Bay State title and a third place finish at All-States.

The All-Scholastic girls' cross country team was selected by the Boston Globe's school sports staff. Selection is limited to MIAA schools that compete in EMass leagues. Text by Nick French.
