Athletes of the Year

Victor Ferreira

Division 1: New Bedford, Senior, Midfield
The captain led his team to an undefeated regular season and pushed his career totals to 58 goals and 51 assists. He was MVP of the Big 3 Conference and an All-State and All-New England selection the past two years. He also was named an NSCAA All-American this season.

Gareth Dudney

Division 2: North Andover, Senior, Midfield
The Cape Ann League MVP tallied 19 goals and 11 assists this season, and was an All-New England selection. He was an All-State selection the past two years, and was the EMass All-Star Game MVP last year. The senior is considering Villanova, Vermont, and UMass for college.

Jacob Rendon

Division 3: Harwich, Senior, Midfield
Rendon was Player of the Year in the South Shore League and was an All-New England and All-State selection. The senior captained his team to league titles the past two seasons. A National Honor Society student, Rendon will attend the US Coast Guard Academy next year.


Thomas Ballenthin

Lexington, Junior, Defense
The junior helped lead his team to a Division 1 EMass title, the Middlesex League title, and a 19-1-3 record this season. He scored 11 goals and added 11 assists and was an All-State selection. He is a three-year starter who also runs track during the winter and spring seasons.

Leon Brown

Roxbury Latin, Senior, Forward
The leading scorer in the ISL with 17 goals and six assists, he finishes his career with 55 goals and 23 assists, while garnering All-State and All New England honors this season. He has earned ISL honors in track and basketball and will play soccer at Notre Dame.

Brett Canepa

Hingham, Senior, Forward
Canepa tallied 21 goals and eight assists this season and earned a spot on the All-New England team. He was also named to the All-State team for the second consecutive year. The UMass-bound senior is an honor roll student and he finished his career with 54 goals and 23 assists.

Miguel Castro

Lynn Classical, Senior, Forward
The senior captain scored 30 goals and tallied 13 assists this season, earning the Northeastern Conference North MVP award. He was named to the All-State team and racked up 93 goals and 40 assists during his three-year career. He is considering Maryland, Santa Clara, and Boston University, among others.

Chris Ciampa

Danvers, Senior, Forward
The Northeastern Conference South MVP led EMass with 33 goals and added 14 assists this season. He was also named to the Coaches All-State team and is a three-time NEC All-Star. The honor student plans to study engineering in college.

Cole DeNormandie

Lincoln-Sudbury, Junior, Forward
The two-time All-Scholastic had 22 goals and six assists en route to his second Dual County League MVP award. The junior led his team to the Division 1 North final and earned spots on the All-American, All-New England, and All-State teams. He has 46 goals and 18 assists in his three seasons.

William Donovan

Catholic Memorial, Senior, Forward
The senior captain scored the decisive goal in his team's 1-0 victory in the state championship game against Ludlow. Donovan netted 18 goals and added 15 assists this season, earning him the Catholic Conference MVP award. He was named to the All-State team and is committed to Duke University.

Jeff Kilday

Marshfield, Senior, Defense
The senior center back was named to the All-New England, All-State, and Atlantic Coast League All-Star teams after leading the Rams to a 9-7-4 record. He also plays for the Crusaders United soccer team, and is a National Honor Society student.

Graham Knisley

St. George's, Senior, Defense
A powerful defender and scoring threat for the Dragons, Graham was a four-year starter and captain the last two years. The ISL defensive MVP for 2009 capped his career by being named first team All-ISL, a New England NEPSAC All-Star, and an All-New England/All-American candidate.

Jae Lee

Chapel Hill, Junior, Forward
Lee, who also plays lacrosse, was named the EIL's Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring for the third straight year. With 16 goals and 5 assists this season, Lee was also named Chapel Hill's MVP for the third straight season.

Allan Parrelli

Reading, Senior, Forward
The Middlesex League MVP and All-New England selection racked up 17 goals and five assists this season, including three goals in the playoffs. He was named to the All-State and EMass All-Star teams and finished his career with 26 goals and nine assists.

Keith Rose

Dighton-Rehoboth, Senior, Forward
Rose holds school records for goals in a game (5), season (34), and career (89), and most points in a season (45) and career (111). He had 32 goals and five assists this season and was an All-New England and All-State selection. He also runs winter track and plays baseball.

Gustavo Santos

Framingham, Senior, Midfield
The Bay State League MVP scored 23 goals and added 10 assists this season and was selected for the All-New England and All-State teams. During his career he tallied 44 goals and 27 assists and the Flyers won two EMass Division 1 titles.

Eric Slingerland

Phillips Exeter, Senior
2009 was a year for the record books for Slingerland, who tied the school record for goals in a season (16) and broke the career record (44). Slingerland, who scored a goal in the East-West Senior All-Star game, will play lacrosse and perhaps soccer at Harvard next year.

Admilson Timas

Brockton, Senior, Forward
A member of the Coaches Division 1 All-State team, Timas led the Boxers to a 16-4-2 mark and the Division 1 South title game. With 13 goals and 14 assists, the team captain and Big Three All-Star was ranked second in the conference in scoring.

Nick Woolf

Winchester, Senior, Goalkeeper
Woolf had one of the best goalkeeping seasons in school history, winning 12 games, posting nine shutouts, and allowing 0.81 goals per game. The senior captain holds the school record with 30 career wins. He set a Middlesex League mark with 17 saves in a 1-1 tie against Lexington this season.

John Finn

Catholic Memorial, , Division 1
The Catholic Memorial alum led the Knights to their first state title in boys' soccer, finishing with an 18-3-3 record. He has a 51-30-17 in five seasons at CM. He also coaches track in the winter and spring seasons and is a former cross-country All-Scholastic.

Ted Tedeschi

Sandwich, , Division 2
Tedeschi led Sandwich to the first sectional title in school history when it won the Division 2 South championship. The team finished 18-2-3 and won its fourth straight Atlantic Coast League title. In 23 seasons he is 226-141-51. He also coaches boys' tennis.

Renato Capobianco

Weston, , Division 3
In his eighth year at the helm, he led his team to a 15-2-6 record, a Dual County League Small co-championship, and the Division 3 state title. A San Diego native, he said this year's squad "did a great job on working hard and focusing on one day at a time."
