Athletes of the Year

Moira Barry

Division 1: Framingham, Senior, M
On the way to being named the Bay State Conference Player of the Year, Barry scored 115 goals and Framingham won the Division 1 state championship. The All-American and three-time Globe All-Scholastic looks to continue her career at Boston College.

Kara O'Connell

Division 2: Norwell, Senior
O'Connell racked up 43 goals, 51 assists and forced 31 turnovers as she led the Clippers to a second straight Division 2 title. Also a talented soccer and basketball player, the All-American and two-time All-Scholastic will continue her career at Boston College.


Michelle Ammerman

Waring, Senior
Ammerman was a wall in net for Waring, turning away 70 percent of the shots she faced. The senior registered 11.1 saves per game, conceding an average of just 4.8 goals. Off the field, she won the Waring science award and is a licensed EMT.

Misha Beatty

Westwood, Senior
Beatty led Westwood in scoring this season with 91 goals and 37 assists as she guided the Wolverines to the Division 1 South championship. The All-American is another in a long line of Wolverines to make the trek to play lacrosse at Northwestern.

Sarah Biron

Westwood, Junior
Biron recorded 46 goals and 27 assists this season as she helped Westwood earn a Division 1 South title as a junior. The talented Tri-Valley League all-star has made a verbal commitment to bring her talents to Johns Hopkins.

Mallory Collins

Thayer, Senior, ATT
An All-American, Collins wrapped up her career with 86 goals and 54 assists, leading her team in scoring junior and senior seasons. She is also the Tigers' all-time leading scorer in ice hockey. The senior will attend Loomis Chaffee School for a postgraduate year.

Blake Dietrick

Wellesley, Junior, M
One of the state's top athletes with still a year remaining at Wellesley, Dietrick finished the spring with 101 goals and 50 assists, breaking the school record. Her career totals are 248 goals and 117 assists. She also has scored more than 1,000 points in basketball.

Cat Dioli

Pingree, Senior, DEF
Dioli was the EIL MVP after an outstanding season as a defender for the Highlanders. She is a school tour guide, a peer tutor, and a member of the choir. The talented two-sport athlete will play lacrosse and volleyball at Bates next year.

Mary Louise Dixon

Wellesley, Senior, M
Make it back-to-back All-Scholastic seasons for Dixon, who was a 1,000-point scorer in basketball as well. The Bay State Conference all-star scored 80 goals and added 71 assists to lead the Raiders to a 19-2-1 season. She will be playing basketball at Stonehill in the fall.

Katie Griffin

Griffin's 67 goals and 32 assists earned her All-American recognition as well as a spot on the EMass Coaches Association first team. The Green Dragon cocaptain finished her career with 148 goals and 73 assists. She will play lacrosse and field hockey at Colby.

Tanner Guarino

Framingham, Senior
Guarino capped a stellar career with a Division 1 state championship. The All-American accumulated 304 points and was named Framingham athlete of the year four times. She will bring her considerable talents to UMass in the fall.

Sara Hennessey

Winchester, Senior
Hennessey helped lead the Sachems to the Division 2 North title by scoring 67 goals and adding 32 assists. The honorable mention All-American and first-team EMass Coaches and Middlesex League all-star will play lacrosse at Holy Cross next spring.

Rachel Igoe

Framingham, Junior, M
The All-American and Bay State Conference All-Star was a huge part of the Flyers run to a state title. This spring she had 61 goals and 33 assists and was voted Framingham's junior athlete of the year. She also plays soccer and club lacrosse for Mass Elite.

Casey Irwin

Montrose, Senior
A three-time Independent Girls Conference all-star, Irwin won the MVP award after scoring 42 goals and dishing out 30 assists. She also played soccer and basketball for Montrose. Irwin will play lacrosse at Siena, where she is enrolled in the honors program.

Kate MacDonald

With their senior captain leading the way, the Clippers won their second straight Division 2 state title. MacDonald scored 100 goals and added 45 assists. She was a South Shore League All-Star as well as a second team All-American. She finishes her career with 332 goals and 141 assists and will attend Northwestern.

Kelsey McGovern

McGovern scored 65 goals and assisted on 15 more to lead the Colonials to the Division 1 North semifinals. The All-American and Dual County League all-star also excels on the track, earning team MVP honors. She will play lacrosse at UConn.

Elizabeth Morse

Needham, Senior, A
Morse racked up an astounding 169 points (102 goals, 67 assists) in her third Bay State League all-star season. The All-American finished her career with 234 goals and 151 assists and will play lacrosse at Boston University in the spring.

Katie Ott

Medfield, Junior
The junior Tri-Valley League All-Star was also named to the EMass Girls Lacrosse Coaches Association first team. Ott led her team to a 16-6-1 record and a spot in the Division 2 South semifinals. This season she had 105 goals and 28 assists.

Kelly Rich

Westwood, Senior
Rich was a standout on one of the strongest offensive teams ever in Massachusetts as she tallied 84 goals and 38 assists. The All-American, a two-time state champion, will bring her considerable attacking prowess to Northwestern in the fall.

Kelsey Sheridan

Chelmsford, Senior
Sheridan topped 100 points this season to finish as the Lions' all-time leading scorer. The All-American is a two-time team MVP and Merrimack Valley conference player of the year. She will be playing lacrosse at UMass.

Lauren Sullivan

Winchester, Senior
Sullivan scored seven goals in the state title game, including the 100th of her career, and tallied 38 assists to finish as one of the top scorers in the state (244 goals, 80-plus assists). The All-American helped the Sachems to the Division 2 North title and will play lacrosse at Notre Dame.

Anne Versprille

Franklin, Senior
Versprille was named Hockomock League MVP as she carried the Panthers to the Division 1 South semifinals. The two-year captain honor roll student will continue her lacrosse career at Springfield College, where she will study athletic training.

Julie Bevad

In just two seasons Bevad has turned around the Falcons, winning back-to-back Northeastern Conference titles and NEC coach of the year honors both seasons. The Falcons, who finished 18-4 this season, said her team "believed in each other, was coachable, and hardworking."

Stacey Freda

Freda led the Flyers to the Division 1 state title, her third state crown in 10 years at Framingham. She's a perfect 10 for 10 in tournament appearances and the Flyers have won seven straight North Sectional titles. She also was the Globe's Coach of the Year in 2005.
