Athletes of the Year
Division 1: Andover, Senior
McConnell finished his track career with a banner season, taking the Merrimack Valley Conference, Division 1 and All-State titles in the 100 dash and the 4x100 relay. He is a three-time 55-dash state champ and a two-time 100 winner.
Amado claimed the ISL titles in the triple jump (41 feet, 10 inches) and the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches). He also puts his jumping ability to use as the starting power forward for the Tigers basketball team. He enjoys poetry, music and graphic design.
Araujo established a Massachusetts record at the All-State tournament in the 400 hurdles (53.53)after going undefeated in the regular season and taking the Division 1 title. He won the 300 hurdles at All-State with a time of 38.97 seconds.
The Catholic Conference outstanding performer lived up to his billing this postseason, taking the 2-mile wins at the All-State (9:04.87) and Division 1 tournaments. The Dartmouth-bound senior also won the mile at the Catholic Conference meet.
Bombaugh obliterated the shot put competition at the Division 2 and All-State tournaments. He fell short at the New England's by 13 inches, taking a runner-up finish with a 63-foot throw, 3 inches shy of his personal record.
Burns was undefeated in the 800-meter run this season, setting the Division 2 record with a time of 1:54.2. The Patriot League all-star's 1:53.9 at the All-State tournament earned him that title as well, and he was league champ in the 400-meter run.
He was undefeated in the 200 dash this summer, taking the Division 1, All-State and Merrimack Valley Conference titles with a trio of under-22 runs. His 21.74 personal best is a school record, and he was part of the 1:29.02 4x200 state record.
Fairfield won the high jump title at both the Division 4 and the All-State meets, each time by a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches. He had as strong an indoor season as his outdoor one, finishing first in the state in the high jump and fourth nationally.
New Bedford, Senior
Gomes won the 110 hurdles at the Division 1 (14.12), All-State and New England tournaments, but fell shy of his school record time of 13.8 at all three. He also has a personal best mark of 6 feet 8 inches in the high jump.
St. John's Prep, Senior
Kadich won the 400 dash at All-State championships in 48.45, his personal record. He also won the event at the Division 1 tournament for the third time. He holds five school records and plans to continue his track career at Harvard.
Macdonald won the long jump at the Division 4 tournament and a week later captured the All-State championship (23 feet, 8.25 inches). The two-time All-Scholastic holds seven Hamilton-Wenham records, and will attend Northeastern University.
McDonald won the pole vault at the All-State meet, hitting the 15 foot mark for a new record. His team's 37 foot, 6 inch combined total at the State Relays also set a new state high mark, and his 22 foot, 6.75 inch high jump was good for third at All-State.
Obiefuna was tops in the triple jump at the All-State meet (45 feet, 9 inches) and the long jump at the Division 3 tournament (21-9). He was triple jump champion of the Northeast Conference and finished third at the Division 3 meet in that event.
Pare was the mile champ at the Division 1 meet (4 minutes, 20.66 seconds) and finished second at the All-State tournament with in a career-best 4:17.37, a Rangers record. Pare is the senior class valedictorian and will attend Boston College.
Quinn was unstoppable in the javelin as he set records at the Division 3 (217 feet, 11 inches), the All-State meets (202-5) and won the New England title with his 207-7 foot throw. His division-winning mark set a Somerset record.
St. Paul's, Senior
Sans ran circles around the competition, winning the ISL titles in the 800 meters, 1500 meters, and 3000 meters. He is also a skier, earning a spot on the All-Lakes regional team. He will attend Middlebury College.
BC High, Senior
Tallman's discus wins at the Division 1 and All-State meets marked his third and second titles respectively. The three-time All-Scholastic holds the All-State record of 178 feet. He will be playing football and running track at the University of Miami.
4 x 100
Patrick Farnham, Christopher McConnell, Troy Cayon, and Kerrick Stevens were almost unbeatable this season. The squad took the All-State (42.37) and the Division 1 titles. They finished second at the New England tournament, three-hundredths of a second behind Lawrence. Stevens and McConnell are both graduating.
4 x 400
Kerrick Stevens, Mark Vetere, Troy Cayon and Connor O'Neill took first place at the All-State meet with a 3:19:06 a week after taking the Division 1 title. They were the top Massachusetts squad at the New England championships, finishing runner-up to Staples of Connecticut in a time of 3:20.22. Cayon will be the sole returner of the group next year.

Ben Pare, Stephen Lilja, Cameron Kelley, Jared Reddy and Andrew Stamatopulos were consistently strong in distance competition this as they took the Division 1 and All-State titles. The squad also swept the Division 1 state relays, winning the distance medley and the 4x1600. Stamatopulos (UMass-Lowell) and Reddy (UMass) are the only graduates of the group.
coach of the year
Atwood led the Warriors to the Division 3 title after finishing third in the Hockomock league. He had a pair of State Relay champs in his 4x400 and DMR squads. Atwood was himself a cross country All-Scholastic in 1989 for Bishop Feehan.
Fay said he preaches "dedication, accountability and hard work", and his sermons are reaping dividends. After taking over a winless team in 2007, he's coached the Red Devils to three straight Commonwealth Athletic Conference titles.
Cardinal Spellman capped off a great season of running accomplishments by finishing undefeated in the Catholic Central large, led by veteran coach Ruel. Spellman won the league title in indoor track this winter and the boys spring track title was the second straight. They were undefeated last year also.
In his second season, Tilton led the Whalers to a perfect 7-0 record, finishing runner-up at the All-State and Division 1 tournaments and the Division 1 relays. He was named Division 1 coach of the year.
