New England Revolution defenseman AJ Soares is a guest contributor to Corner Kicks.

ajsoaresheadshot.jpgWeíre back in New England, and I am finally moved into my apartment. I had literally been in a hotel for a month straight, not to complain because it was quite nice, but it does feel good to have my own place finally here.

The cold weather is great to back in again. I enjoyed Orlando, where we spent eleven days of preseason, but the truth is that I could not wait to get back to the snow. With that said, we head to Atlanta next for another preseason trip.

Everything with the team is going great. The guys are working really hard and everybody is having fun around the locker room. The camaraderie is building and the team will be a close knit group for sure this season.

My move-in went smoothly for the most part, other than the bat incident. This is a 100 percent true story. I got into my apartment, cleaned and painted the place, and was finally settled in with my bed on the floor. All of a sudden, an enormous bat emerged from behind the stale pink curtains that the landlord had left, and started circling around the room. I remember taking the bat on one vs. one, but my mom will tell you that I locked myself in the bathroom. I think what actually happened was something in between those two stories.

But as you can see here, I did paint the entire place myself (with my momís help of course), and I consider myself quite the handyman. Give me some tools and Iíll swag your place up. Maybe Iíll be a contractor someday.

The last thing about my new place that I have to say is that the walls are huge, but starkly white. Somebody, and I really hope this happens, paint me a picture or draw me something that I can put on my wall. Perhaps a skyline of the city.

And finally, I have been getting a lot of affectionate flak about my interview on the Revolution website, where I admit my admiration for Katy Perry. I stand behind this confession, and my top 5 on my iPod does not lie. Here is my top 5 for today.

  1. Katy Perry-Teenage Dream

  2. Katy Perry-Firework

  3. Cage the Elephant-Shake Me Down

  4. Foster the People-Pumped Up Kicks

  5. Yeasayer-Red Cave

Check out this link for a cool vid of Yeasayer. PG-13. Minute 9:45 and on is particularly rad.
