With the sixth overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft, the New England Revolution picked Cal defender A.J. Soares.

"My gut told me that this is where Iíd be picked, to the Revolution," said Soares in a press release. "I didnít speak to the staff until just now but I kind of had a feeling that theyíd pick me there. I think they have confidence in me and I have confidence in the staff.

"Rad city. Love (Boston). Great sporting region," Soares went on to say. "Youíve got great teams there. Youíve got the Celtics, youíve got the Patriots. Itís a place that you want to be as an athlete. Itís a place that Iíll develop. Iíll appreciate all the fans. Itís a place that Iím going to love being. Iíll transition into it easily."

Update: The Revolution selected midfielder Stephen McCarthy with the 24th overall pick in the SuperDraft out of the University of North Carolina.

"I wasnít expecting it, but Iím so excited and happy," McCarthy said. "Canít wait to get out there."

The Revolution also drafted forward Steven Perry (Notre Dame) in the third round (39th overall), forward/midfielder Ryan Kinne (Monmouth) in the third round (42nd overall), and forward Alan Koger (William & Mary) in the third round (54th overall).
