Emilio Renteria and Brian Carroll scored to keep the Crew ahead of New York in MLS with a 2-0 win over the Red Bulls last night in Columbus, Ohio.
New York’s Thierry Henry watched from a suite because he’s not ready to play yet. He’s expected to debut in an exhibition against Tottenham Hotspur Thursday.
Renteria ended the Crew’s 245-minute scoreless streak in the 20th minute on a counter following Carroll’s takeaway from Juan Pablo Angel at midfield. Carroll scored his first goal since Aug. 16, 2008, in the 48th minute with a strike from 25 yards.
Columbus ended New York’s five-game MLS unbeaten streak and moved to 31 points, 5 ahead of the Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference.
Dallas 2, Real Salt Lake 0 — Brek Shea had a goal and an assist in Frisco, Texas, and FC Dallas ended Real Salt Lake’s 10-game unbeaten streak.
Dallas hasn’t lost in six league games.
Shea scored in the 69th minute, on a rebound from Milton Rodriguez’s shot, knocking the ball into the far corner from the top left of the box.
That snapped a 566-minute scoreless streak for Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando, the third longest in MLS history.
Union 2, Toronto 1 — Sebastien Le Toux scored on a penalty deep into stoppage time to lift Philadelphia over Toronto FC in Chester, Pa.
Toronto had its eight-match unbeaten streak snapped. It hadn’t dropped a match since May 1.
Rapids 1, Wizards 1 — Conor Casey scored in the 74th minute and the Rapids tied Kansas City, keeping the Wizards winless in Colorado since 2004.
The US won the second game of a two-game set with the Swedes, after they tied, 1-1, Tuesday in Omaha.
