Andy Henriquez back set the ball to one side; Lawrence High teammate Christian Taveras ran to the other.
Both watched the ball drop on their side of the net, untouched.
It was a classic case of miscommunication.
The two looked at each other, blank-faced, and turned their heads right to Lawrence coach Tony Hajjar.
“Figure it out!” he yelled.
On the next possession, they did.
Henriquez set a beautifully placed ball to the middle of the net where Taveras took advantage with a textbook, cross-angle swipe for one of his 10 kills during a scrimmage against St. John’s Prep on Wednesday.
The setter/hitter tandem had their ups and downs all afternoon, but continued to show progress.
That’s all Hajjar can ask of his Lancers this season.
