Girls’ volleyball players of the week

Julia Smith, Newton South — The setter’s 30 assists helped the Lions rally from a 14-11 deficit in the fifth set to defeat Westford, 3-2, for the first time in five years.

Caroline Schmidt, North Andover — The senior outside hitter delivered 20 service points, 7 aces, and 17 digs to lead the Knights to their 11th straight win after a 3-1 win over Chelmsford.

Lisa Tarasyuk, Brookline — The senior outside hitter/middle blocker made 19 kills to keep the Warriors unbeaten after a sweep of Natick, 3-0, (25-23, 25-17, 25-22).

Carolyn Scacchi, Peabody – The senior middle hitter and four-time all-star posted 23 kills for the Tanners in their win over Lynn English, 3-1, advancing her team to the postseason. The NEC MVP leads her squad in digs (153), blocked shots (17), aces (14), and kills (123). Scacchi has made 549 kills since her freshman year.

Hanna Lesch, North Reading – The senior outside hitter led the Hornets with 24 service points, 11 aces, 8 digs, and 2 kills in a 3-0 win over Hamilton-Wenham.
