Sometimes a tie can feel like a win — it certainly did for the Lowell Catholic girls’ soccer team Friday night. After being down two goals at halftime against defending Division 3 state champion Weston, the host Crusaders’ came back to even the score and nearly won the match before settling for the 2-2 draw.
The teams last met in the first round of the Division 3 North sectional last year when Weston upset the top-seeded Crusaders, 3-0.
In the final minutes of Friday’s game, with the score tied at 2, Lowell Catholic senior midfielder Lexi Petzold lined up for a free kick from about 25 yards out. Her shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced right into the hands of Weston’s goalkeeper.
