Sadness, concern on state hockey rinks
Not everything that occured on the ice was good this winter. Just days after celebrating Christmas, 17-year-old Pentucket senior captain Matt McCarthy collapsed at center ice at the end of practice and died. His passing shocked not only the school but the entire hockey community. On the left, teammates remember him in a moment of silence in their first game after his death.
Less than a month later, in a game against Weymouth, Norwood High sophomore Matt Brown (right) went into the boards and was injured, leaving him paralyzed. After time at Children's Hospital in Boston, he was transfered to a rehabilitation facility in Georgia. Hockey fans have rallied around his cause.
