Scituate slips by Whitman-Hanson to stay unbeaten

Senior running back Dawayne Kirton rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns and Scituate (3-0) kept its undefeated season alive with a 35-34 victory over Whitman-Hanson (0-3) Saturday afternoon.

Trailing, 28-27, with 3:30 left in the game, Kirton gave Scituate the lead with his final score of the day from 3 yards out. Kirton then converted a 2-point rush to put the Sailors ahead by 7.

“We wanted to go for 2, we thought we had a good play that we hadn’t shown yet,” said Scituate coach Herb Devine. “Dawayne’s been our workhorse, our go-to guy. We want to give the ball to our best players to make plays.”

Whitman-Hanson scored on a 10-yard rush from junior Michael Lenane to get within 1 with 30 seconds remaining.
