Beverly’s 15-game win streak dating back to 2011 ended Saturday, as the host Panthers struggled offensively and on special teams, before falling to Haverhill, 21-19. Ian Kessel led the Hillies with a game-high 31 carries and 135 rushing yards.
Haverhill, which first played Beverly back in 1956, are 13-10-2 in the overall series. The last time the two teams met in 2004, Haverhill came out on top, 24-14. Saturday’s game was much closer, thanks to Beverly’s tough defense.
“This is like the biggest teaching tool,” said Beverly coach Dan Bauer. “I’m optimistic with this club, though. One thing I will tell you is they work hard. You can’t deny that.”
