Boys' basketball players of the week
Malcolm Brown, Pope John - Brown, who leads the Catholic Conference (Small) in scoring (18.6 ppg) scored his 1,000th point in Friday’s loss to Medford. He finished the game with 19 points. He also netted 24 in a 63-38 win over Marian Tuesday.
Darien Fernandez, Wareham - The Vikings guard narrowly missed a quadruple-double in Tuesday’s win over Old Rochester, finishing with 36 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds, and 8 steals.
Jamal Reuben, Brockton - Reuben led the Boxers over No. 1 ranked Catholic Memorial Friday, scoring a game-high 28 points. Brockton won the game, 88-87, on a last second 3-pointer by William Baker, who gets a honorable mention this week for the shot.
Brandon Castro, Arlington - Castro reached 1,000 points for his career in Friday night’s 64-62 overtime loss to Lexington. Castro scored 27 of his game-high 37 points in the second half.
Kevin LaFrancis, Acton-Boxboro - LaFrancis had 17 points and 15 rebounds to help the Colonials clinch the DCL (Large) with a 59-53 win over Westford Academy Friday.
