As the final seconds ticked away in the Division 1 North final last March, Samantha Hyslip had a sense of devastation. Once again, Westford Academy’s season was going to come to a halt against a familiar foe.
“We had just fought so hard for this, and now it’s going to be over . . . again,” recalled Hyslip.
Courtney Walsh was running the point on the other side, for Central Catholic, which was on its way to a state title. In its path, the Raiders had bounced Westford for the third straight season.
Walsh hoisted the D1 North trophy and Hyslip walked out of Lowell’s Tsongas Center in dismay. At the time they did not know each other, but the rivals would soon become close friends, and future teammates at Stonehill College.
