Xaverian moved out to a three-goal early lead and never let Lincoln-Sudbury back in the game, beating the top-seeded Warriors, 9-5, in the Division 1 EMass final Wednesday night at Harvard.
The teams traded chances early but both goalies made great saves, shutting down their opponent. There was no clear advantage in possession for either side but the Hawks had the more dangerous opportunities to start.
And they would strike first.
Erik Backes scored at 3:31 to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the opening quarter.
Xaverian (16-6) continued to play strong defensively and scored three more unanswered goals in the second quarter. The Hawks received two goals from Jack Wheeler (four total) and one from Lucas Buckley to go up, 4-0.
