Notre Dame (Hingham) had its back against the wall.
The No. 3 Cougars were down in the fifth set of their volleyball match against host Medfield, when Globe All-Scholastic Julia Flynn stepped in.
The senior outside hitter, who finished with 25 kills, 6 digs, and 3 aces, shouldered a comeback as the Cougars (8-1) beat the Warriors, 3-2 (19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 15-13).
“Both teams played with a ton of heart,” said Notre Dame coach Josh Shepherd, whose team came back from a 6-1 deficit in the fifth game. “Game five could have gone in either direction. It was just really, really good volleyball.”
Sophomore Avery Spaziani pitched in with 14 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces, while senior Casey Thorbahn added 12 kills and four blocks.
