With a pivotal matchup against No. 6 BC High looming on Saturday, the No. 8 St. John’s Prep boys soccer team (4-0-1) could have easily been caught looking ahead in Wednesday’s contest against unranked Xaverian (3-3). But two key goals from junior striker Paul Magazzu at the end of the first half gave the Eagles a lead they held on to win, 4-2, on their home turf.
“It’s a big win,” said Prep coach Dave Crowell. “We did not look past [Xaverian] at all.”
Senior striker Matt Chilton got St. John’s Prep on the scoreboard in the first minute off a corner kick, but Hawks senior Chris Doire tied it at the 20-minute mark.
