In his 15 years coaching at Watertown, girls’ soccer coach Kaz Keuchkarian had never seen his Raiders beat Winchester. But his 11 seniors made that record history on Wednesday, as they upset the No. 10 Sachems, 1-0, at home.
“We absolutely knew we had our work cut out for us today,” Keuchkarian said. “We felt if we could get on the scoreboard early, we had a shot to at least walk out with a tie.”
Senior Marissa Russo scored off a pass from sophomore Sara Lampasona just over eight minutes into the game.
For the next 72-plus minutes, the Raiders hunkered down to keep Winchester off the board, thanks in large part to senior goalie Casey Halle, who got her second shutout in three games.
