Prayer for Relief took off with an opening quarter in 24.48 seconds and never looked back, winning the $500,000 Super Derby by 2 1/2 lengths at Louisiana Downs yesterday.

The victory in the Grade 2 race was the fourth straight win for Prayer for Relief, and third in graded stakes.

Awesome Bet edged Populist Politics for second in a photo, while Alternation finished fourth.

Prayer for Relief, with Rafael Bejarano up, covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1 minute 52.29 seconds.

The 6-5 favorite, which runs for Zayat Stables and trainer Bob Baffert, paid $4.40, $3.20, and $3.20.

Prayer for Relief moved to 8-5-1 in his career and won $300,000, boosting his earnings to $955,500.

Prayer for Relief improved to 3 for 3 on conventional dirt tracks after taking the Iowa Derby (Grade 3) at Prairie Meadows and the West Virginia Derby (Grade 2) at Mountaineer Park.

Before those two, the dark bay colt raced on the synthetic surfaces in California, breaking his maiden and running second in the Real Quiet S. last season at Hollywood Park.

Bowling Green Handicap - In a race contested on a grass course after several days of hard rain, Grassy took the opening-day $150,000 feature at Belmont.

Grassy, ridden by Garrett Gomez, raced close to the pace set by Sal the Barber. Grassy moved for the lead in midstretch, beating Center Divider to the wire by a half-length. Grassy ran the 1 3/8 miles in 2:19.69.

Grassy paid $5.60, $3.30, and 2.50 as the 9-5 second choice. Center Divider was second and Bold Hawk third.
