Saying it was "time for me to compete on a consistent basis and contend for championships now ," Dale Earnhardt Jr., the 32-year-old namesake of the late seven-time NASCAR champion, announced yesterday he was leaving the family business and parting with Dale Earnhardt Inc., the race team his father built, effective at the end of the 2007 Nextel Cup season.
