CHARLESTOWN, N.H.—Cecil Fisk of Charlestown, N.H., the father of Baseball Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk, has died. He was 97.

The Stringer Funeral Home in Claremont says Fisk died Thursday at Springfield Hospital in Vermont after a brief illness.

Carlton Fisk played 24 years for the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox. He made headlines for his 12th-inning home run for Boston to win game six of the 1975 World Series against Cincinnati. During his induction speech at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000, he said his father contributed the most to his being stubborn and determined.

Cecil Fisk was a longtime worker for the Jones and Lamson Machine Co. in Springfield and farmed. He played basketball and encouraged a love of sports among his six children.
