There were also five top-10 writing awards: Mike Reiss in explanatory for the changing value of a high NFL draft pick; Shira Springer in projects for her report on surgical advances in sports medicine; Dan Shaughnessy in game stories for his account of the Celtics securing their 17th NBA title; Gordon Edes in game stories for his account of Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester's no-hitter, and Stan Grossfeld in features for his profile of trainer Lorita Lindemann, who helped horses at Suffolk Downs avoid the slaughterhouse.
The eight awards were the most by any paper in the top circulation category.
