There's no shortage of running events in Boston this weekend as the city welcomes marathoners and their families and friends from around the globe.
Here's a quick review:
John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo: Opens Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hynes Convention Center. It is open until 7 p.m. Friday, then runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
New Balance Midnight Run: On Saturday at 11 p.m. (sharp) at Boylston and Dartmouth (Copley Square); Look for the New Balance trolley near the Boylston Store. Run is four miles to the North End (Revere Statue) and back, guided by Paul Revere and his friends. Free event features flashing lights, LED hats and other give-aways. It is not a race. Just a fun, free run through the city. Obey all traffic signs.
BAA 5K and Invitational Mile races: Held on Sunday at 8 a.m. in the Copley Square area. Events begin with a 5K race through the Back Bay area, then a series of mile races.
Newton Running clinics: On Friday and Saturday on the Charles River at the corner of Memorial Drive and Massachusetts Avenue, look for a green Newton Running tent. That's where one-hour running clinics will begin at 8 a.m., hosted by Newton's natural running experts. They will focus on natural running techniques and adopting a midfoot/forefoot strike.
Boston Running Film Festival: At Hynes Convention Center, this event begins Friday and runs through Sunday. It features 22 movies shown in blocks. Check out the festival web site for details.

4-4:45 p.m. Running & Being: Andy Sheehan (with Amby Burfoot). Investigative journalist and author discusses his father George Sheehanís iconic book.
10-10:45 a.m. How to Run Your Best Boston Marathon
Noon -12:45 p.m. The Boston Marathon Legends Panel: Amby Burfoot, Jack Fultz, Dave McGillivray, Greg Meyer, Kim Jones, Bill Rodgers, and Kathrine Switzer
1-1:45 p.m. Going the Distance: Steps to Improve Your Endurance: Dean Karnazes
2-2:45 p.m. Running & Being
Boston Marathon pre-race dinner: Sunday at City Hall Plaza (near Faneuil Hall) from 4:30 to 8 p.m. For runners and their guests.
