1988: Bruins beat the Devils in 7
In 1988, the Terry O'Reilly coached Bruins, who went 44-30-6, rolled through the Sabres and Canadiens in the first two rounds of the playoffs before facing the New Jersey Devils. The Bruins wins were lopsided, with the series featuring scores of 5-3, 6-1, 7-1 and 6-2. But the Devils won the close ones, winning Games 2, 4 and 6, setting up Game 7. The Bruins dominated in the final game, winning 6-2.
The Bruins went on to lose in the Stanley Cup Finals in five games.
