Bruins history in the conference finals
1991: Penguins defeat the Bruins in six
The Bruins won their division in 1991, going 44-24-12, led by Ray Bourque and Cam Neely. After defeating the Whalers in the semis and Canadiens in seven games in the division finals, the Bruins took on the Penguins, who were led by Mark Recchi. Recchi scored 113 points during the regular season.
The Bruins won the first two games of the series, including Game 2 in overtime, 5 to 4. However, the Penguins outscored the Bruins 20 to 6 in Games 3 through 6 to take home the series. Pittsburgh would go on to defeat the Minnesota North Stars in the Stanley Cup. It was a bit of revenge for the Penguins, considering the previous year, the Bruins knocked them out in the conference finals.
