The Bruins have played some bad games this season, but today's may rank among the worst. In the first period, it took almost 17 full minutes to get a shot on net. They had a total of four shots on net in the first period and gave up a goal to Carolina's Patrick Dwyer with about 30 seconds left in the period.
After the game, Tuukka Rask accurately called the period "embarrassing." The second period was better. The Bruins outshot Carolina 12-11 and Patrice Bergeron tied the game at the 14:35 mark.
The third period was the worst of the season by shots on net. The Bruins fired just two shots total in the entire period, passing up opportunities to shoot or missing the net when they did get chances.
Tuukka Rask made a total of 35 saves, including at important junctures in the third period when the team was lucky to get the one point they did get.
Overtime was wide open and each team got two shots on net, but it went to a shootout again, and the Bruins failed to get one past Anton Khudobin. Eric Staal scored the only goal of the shootout and it was a good shot.
The last shooter, Bergeron, had to score to keep the Bruins alive but he came up empty.
