Zdeno Chara Says Bruins May Have Been Nervous at the Start of Game 7

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara was disappointed as were most of his teammates after the Game 7 loss to the Canadiens at the Garden Wednesday night.

"I don’t think that we can say that we were probably playing our best hockey in this series," Chara said. "I know that the effort and the willingness wasn’t there, but we were just for whatever reason not playing probably our best hockey like we were in the season or even against Detroit."

Chara spoke about the poor start to the game which saw the Canadiens jump out on top 1-0, just 2:18 into the first period.

"I don’t know if we were nervous or – for sure that wasn’t the start that we were kind of trying to have," Chara said. "For sure it was, we were not moving the puck well. We were kind of hesitant and as the game went on we were getting better and better and then eventually we were on top of them, but kind of we needed that one more goal to tie the game, and you saw what happened."

Chara spoke about whether it was hard to chase the puck.

"Yeah, it was hard," he said. "It’s one of those things that any goal can make a difference in a game and it doesn’t matter if you score it early or late, and for them that first goal I think gave them a lot of energy, a lot of jump, and we were kind of trying and chasing and working really, really hard, but we just needed that one goal to get us going again, you know, to tie that game."

Like his teammates, Chara was extremely disappointed about going home after the second round series.

"Well, yeah I mean I would lie to you if I say it’s not disappointing, especially after the season we had," Chara said. "We, for sure our goals, which, were much higher than obviously finishing in the second round, so of course it is disappointing."

Chara spoke about the frustration the team experienced in the third period.

"Maybe a little bit of, a bounce here or there or luck," he said. "I mean we had some really good chances. When there is a game, one goal game, 2-1, you’re really looking for just to get that goal and tie the game, and we couldn’t get it done."

Chara spoke about what happened on the Briere goal that gave the Habs the 3-1 lead.

"I was trying to prevent that crossing pass which he was trying to do, and it hit my skate and just bounced right to [the] perfect spot where I don’t know if that was under the glove, over the glove or just right beside Tuukka [Rask]," he said. "It was just a very unfortunate bounce."
