WILMINGTON -- Good morning from Ristuccia Arena, where Steven Kampfer is expected to participate in his first NHL regular-season practice. Kampfer was recalled from Providence this morning on an emergency basis to replace Mark Stuart, who was injured in the first period of last night's 3-2 overtime win over Buffalo.

Kampfer, whose rights were acquired from Anaheim last season, has a 3-13--16 line in 20 AHL games. Kampfer is a right-shot defenseman who was often paired with Zdeno Chara during training camp. The Bruins now have three right-shot defensemen in Kampfer, Johnny Boychuk, and Adam McQuaid. Chara, Andrew Ference, and Dennis Seidenberg are left shots.

The injury to Stuart, in conjunction with the trade of Matt Hunwick, tests the Bruins' defensive depth. It was one of the risks GM Peter Chiarelli ran when trading Hunwick to clear cap space for Marc Savard.

We should learn more about the nature of Stuart's injury later today.

UPDATE: Practice has started and Kampfer is on the ice. All present save for Stuart.
