Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, who played in Game 7 vs. the Habs last spring, figures he has played ''three or four'' Game 7s in his NHL career, including his years with Ottawa.

Did anyone in the room ever say anything particularly poignant before any of those games?

''When you lose Game 7s, you don't try to memorize it,'' said Big Z. ''You try to forget about them.''

The captain's advice prior to taking on the Canes tomorrow:

''Just play, do your best and be smart. Sometimes, players end up trying to do too much because it's Game 7. Just stick with the game plan, do your job ... don't try to do too much. I am sure a lot of things will be said [prior to tomorrow night], and it won't be just one guy -- I think everyone is going to say something. It will be huge for us to be ready.''

Savard update
Coach Claude Julien said today that Marc Savard, who left in the third period last night after a leg-to-leg-check, will suit up for Game 7. But as expected, Savard was not made available to the media -- which adds a slight bit of suspicion about his availability.

Yes, that's reading the tea leaves, but ...

Ice time for Sturm
Marco Sturm, rehabbing from knee surgery, was the only player to get on the ice.

Sturm keeps working on regaining strength, but GM Peter Chiarelli said a couple of weeks ago that it is highly unlikely that that the German forward will play again this year, even if the Bruins were to go the distance in a Cup final.

Thomas takes it easy
Tim Thomas left the rink early in the afternoon, following a relaxing stint in both the sauna and whirlpool. He planned to take a nap at home, then settle in to watch the Penguins-Captials in their Game 7 tilt in D.C.

''I was hoping in advance that they would go to a Game 7,'' said Thomas. ''I'm really looking forward to it, just to watch, not so much to scout it or anything.''
