WASHINGTON — By Wednesday, the Bruins will have seven games remaining in the regular season. That night against Detroit, they will commence their pre-playoff process of resting players and adjusting the lineup.

There’s a good chance the second and third lines will see some of that change.

The Bruins are rolling. Their success, however, is disguising the deficiencies in Reilly Smith’s game. The 22-year-old started the season ripping hot, scoring 18 goals in his first 52 games. Smith was a revelation as the No. 2 right wing and point man on the second power-play unit.

But Smith has just one goal in his last 22 games. The Bruins may not be able to afford that kind of flickering offense in the playoffs.
