For most of his seven years in Boston, Zdeno Chara has patrolled the blue line on the power play.
That may change in his eighth Black-and-Gold season.
During power-play drills on Saturday at TD Garden, the Bruins shifted Chara to the front of the net. Torey Krug and David Krejci worked the points. Jarome Iginla was the shooter in the slot. Milan Lucic was the other forward down low.
“We’re tinkering with that,” coach Claude Julien said. “We have some guys that we feel can shoot the puck from the back end. Z is probably one of our best guys at screening with his big body. We’ve known that for a long time. It was probably what we feel like we didn’t have for the back end.”
