1981 MLB strike
This work stoppage had a bigger impact than the one in 1972, canceling 713 games (38 percent) in the middle of the season. The strike lasted from June 12 to July 31and centered around player rights. In the final agreement, owners lost the right to have teams directly compensated for the loss of free agents. The owners gained a limited victory in that regard, getting compensation for the loss of some premium free agents by drawing from a pool of unprotected players.
