Which Patriots team is your all-time favorite?
2001: The Brady Era abruptly begins
Probably the most memorable season in franchise history resulted in the first Super Bowl championship for the Patriots. The ride started when Drew Bledsoe was injured on a hit by the Jets' Mo Lewis in the home opener and Tom Brady took over. The young backup quarterback out of Michigan led the team to an 11-5 record to win the AFC East. Antowain Smith, with 1,157 yards rushing, solidified the ground game and had 13 touchdowns. Receiver Troy Brown had a breakout year with 1,199 yards. Lawyer Milloy, Otis Smith, and Ty Law led a formidable defensive backfield.
