Questionable moves in Patriots history
Days before the 2003 season began, the Patriots cut safety Lawyer Milloy, a move that upset players and stunned fans, but the Patriots deemed necessary to get under the salary cap. Milloy was asked to take a pay cut and refused.
The kicker was Milloy immediately signed with the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots' first opponent that season. The Bills won, 31-0, but the Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl with Rodney Harrison and Eugene Wilson playing safety.
