Brady missed the entire 2008 season after a hit from safety Bernard Pollard a little more than seven minutes into the season opener against the Chiefs. Brady tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee, leaving Patriots in the hands of backup quarterback Matt Cassel, who had thrown only 39 passes in his career.
Teammates said Brady's attitude was positive, even though his season ended after just 15 snaps.
"Unfortunately, he is gone for the season with a knee injury. He's still the same old Tom Brady, and I think that's what a lot of people really don't understand," wide receiver Randy Moss said. "A lot of times guys get hurt and you might not see them around the locker room for months at a time. We saw Tom today. I don't know how much longer we're going to see him, but he [was] here uplifted and still keeping a positive attitude. I think that goes a long way not just with him, but the team also."
