Significant injuries in Boston sports history
Kevin GarnettThe Boston Celtics' defense of their 2008 championship was not to be after star forward and team leader Kevin Garnett missed the 2009 playoffs with a knee injury.
The absence of Garnett left a giant hole in the Celtics' frontcourt, especially on the defensive end -- Garnett won the 2008 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. The Celtics went on to lose to the Orlando Magic in a seven-game Easter Conference semi-final. In May, Garnett underwent arthroscopy at New England Baptist Hospital that included the removal of posterior bone spurs from his right knee. Garnetts surgically repaired knee has been ailing recently.
