EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Jimmy Garoppolo played the entire game for the Patriots at quarterback — a mixed performance — as New England lost its preseason finale to the New York Giants, 16-13, Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.

Josh Brown kicked a 37-yard field goal with 38 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Giants the win. Brown had three field goals on the day.

The Giants also got a touchdown out of running back Peyton Hillis, who jumped over the pile at the 1-yard line in the second quarter.

Garoppolo finished 22-of-42 passing for 284 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He connected with Aaron Dobson (3 receptions, 57 yards), who was playing in his first preseason game, for a 33-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

New Patriots tight end Tim Wright, acquired in a trade that sent offensive guard Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, caught four passes for 43 yards on six targets. He was one of the few bright spots for the Patriots in the loss.

Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski kicked two field goals in the losing effort.
