It's not exactly the kind of news that will get fans excited but the New England Patriots are scheduled to meet with guard Shelley Smith, a target of the New York Giants who spent last season with the St. Louis Rams, according to NJ.com reporter Jordan Raanan.

Smith served in a reserve role last year, starting only two games at right guard, but could provide some insurance if starting center Ryan Wendell leaves in free agency. The Patriots have met or are meeting with outside linebacker Matt Shaughnessy, wide receiver Brandon LaFell, and linebacker Wesley Woodyard, who then took a meeting with Tennessee.
