On Miami firing special teams coach John Bonamego after his unit's performance against New England (and the Jets the week before):
"I don't think much of anything that happens in the league these days is a surprise or unheard of...it's kind of too bad...I'm sure what any other team does is in the best interest of their team and I respect that. I'm sure those decisions aren't easy to make."
On using the media or other outside influences as motivation:
"I think you always try to...every time you go into a game try to go into it with a mindset you're going to put everything into it you possibly can, but sometimes a game has a special element that makes it unique from the other 15, and sometimes that can be a positive push or motivation or whatever you want to call it. But in the end, once the game is kicked off, it comes down to executioin. I think motivation is a little bit overrated...I think performance last night should be attributed to the players."
On the timing of the team's bye week:
"I think everybody's glad when the bye week comes; the best part of bye week is going into it with a victory."
Scott O'Brien being more comfortable in his second year with the Pats:
"My relationship with Scott goes back a long way, almost been 20 years. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as football coach period. I think he does great job of coaching football players in whatever the capacity is. Anytime you're with group of players for a year, you just have better sense of their strengths and weaknesses...he's done a real good job of putting guys in spots...We had production in preseason in different phases of kicking game, we also had some breakdowns. (But) it is always easier in the second year to have a sense of the aptitude, capacity and skill set (of players)."
On the Pats' bye week schedule:
The players will be in on Thursday, and in the meantime the coaching staff will work today and tommorow, working on things that we think will benefit our team, both in the short- and long-run. A lot of meetings, a lot of film watching, we'll take our time to discuss things...more than a regular game week. Take a longer, closer look at some things without the pressure of (creating) game plans."
