WEEI's "Dennis & Callahan" program -- on which Patriots quarterback Tom Brady appears weekly -- reported today that the Patriots and their quarterback's camp have made "tremendous progress" toward a new deal.

We're working to confirm the report, which says the deal is "almost done." However, we've been unable to confirm it so far and I've gotten one "hold your horses" warning from my sources.

Ron Borges and Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald report that it's a three-year, $58 million extension.

Asked directly about reports that Brady's deal is "imminent," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said "I don't have anything to report on any contracts."

The sides have worked over the last month on getting an extension hammered out. I wrote extensively at the start of training camp on all the complications involved in such a deal.

Both sides have shown motivation -- real motivation -- to get a deal done since right around the first preseason game. That, of course, guarantees nothing, but I can say that some of the earlier frustration connected to this negotiation had started to fade of late.

We'll let you know when we know more.
