Final: Patriots 28, Falcons 10

ATLANTA -- Patriots get their second victory of the preseason, sealing a 28-10 win against the Atlanta Falcons.

Some highlights: Wes Welker comes in for the first series and catches a couple of passes. Fred Taylor gets quality carries. Rookie tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski get a couple of touchdowns.


4th quarter, 5:45, Falcons 10, Patriots 28: Brian Hoyer's night is over as Zac Robinson enters the game. Hoyer completed 8 of 15 passes for 94 yards and one 1TD.

4th quarter, 5:45, Falcons 10, Patriots 28: Brandon McGowan misses tackle that allows Troy Bergeron to catch John Parker Wilson pass and sprint 19 yards for the TD. Drive: 16 plays, 80 yards, 8:32.

4th quarter, 14:17, Falcons 3, Patriots 28: Hoyer completes a 24-yard pass to rookie tight end Rob Gronkowski. Second TD to a tight end for the Patriots tonight. Stephen Gostkowski gets the extra point. Drive: 5 plays, 42 yards, 1:46.

3d quarter, 0:57, Falcons 3, Patriots 21: Tyrone McKenzie picks up fumble recovery giving the Patriots the ball on the Atlanta 42. Forced fumble looked like it was by Ron Brace but early credit is being given to Brandon Deaderick.

3d quarter, 8:28, Falcons 3, Patriots 21: Sammy Morris runs 20 yards for a TD, breaking outside to the left of the of the field and strolling in. Drive: 9 plays, 69 yards, 4:02.

3d quarter, 13:13, Falcons 3, Patriots 14: Kyle Arrington puts a nasty hit on Antone Smith, jarring the ball loose for an incomplete pass.

3d quarter, 13:43, Falcons 3, Patriots 14: BenJarvus Green-Ellis not having much luck. -1 and +2 on first two carries of the half. Hoyer's pass falls incomplete, ending the drive.

2d quarter, 0:00, Falcons 3, Patriots 14: Hoyer takes a knee to end the half.

2d quarter, 0:35, Falcons 3, Patriots 14: Tom Brady is out and Brian Hoyer is in. Brady completed 10 of 12 passes for 85 yards and 1 TD. On Hoyer's first play from scrimmage he is drilled by Trey Lewis.

2d quarter, 0:41, Falcons 3, Patriots 14: Jonathan Wilhite gets interception and celebrates with an interesting dance. Gives the Patriots the ball on their own 27.

2d quarter, 2:29, Falcons 3, Patriots 14: Ron Brace gets in the game and picks up a tackle. He steps in at left defensive end.

2d quarter, 4:45, Falcons 3, Patriots 14: Here come the subs. QB John Parker Wilson is in the game for Atlanta. Matt Ryan ends his night, completing 8 of 13 passes for 76 yards.

2d quarter, 4:45, Falcons 3, Patriots 14: Rookie tight end Aaron Hernandez managed to keep his feet in bounds as he caught a pass at the back of the end zone for a touchdown. The drive was kept alive when Chevis Jackson was called on a questionable roughing the kicker call, as Gostkowski attempted a 41-yard fg. The flag gave the Patriots a first down on the Falcons 11. Drive: 11 plays, 63 yards, 6:59.

2d quarter, 11:44, Falcons 3, Patriots 7: Brandon Meriweather keeps Tony Gonzalez from securing a catch. Falcons move to third and 4 from the Patriots 29. Bryant comes in for 47-yard fg attempt but it's no good. Patriots take over on their 37.

1st quarter,0.12, Falcons 3, Patriots 7: Patriots are out on three plays on their second drive. Welker doesn't come out for the second series. He is on the sideline.

1st quarter, ,Falcons 3, Patriots 7: Patriots put together impressive drive, despite beginning with 10-yard penalty. Welker got involved and the running game handled the rest as Fred Taylor bounced off the pile and ran 28 yards for the touchdown. Drive: 12 plays, 80 yds, 6:13.

1st quarter, 8:46, Falcons 3, Patriots 0: Wes Welker enters the game, catches first two passes from Brady, totaling 20 yards.

1st quarter, 9:28, Falcons 3, Patriots 0: After easily moving down the field, the Falcons were forced to settle for Matt Bryant's 46-yard field goal to take an early lead. Drive: 11 plays, 52 yards, 5:32.

Patriots defensive starters: Gerard Warren, Vince Wilfork, Mike Wright, Brandon Spikes, Jerod Mayo, Devin McCourty, Darius Butler, Marques Murrell, Derrick Burgess, Brandon McGowan.

Greetings from the Georgia Dome ... the Falcons are about to receive the opening kickoff against the Patriots in their second preseason game of the year.
