On Tuesday morning, in the paper and online, we told you about the new HD video boards the Patriots will be installing. And Robert Kraft said he expected those to be the league's second biggest, with only those in Dallas trumping them, in the league, while disclosing some other details on cool features (like the Red Zone Channel) that Gillette's newest innovation will bring.

The club officially announced the addition of the boards today. Here's some more from the release ...

* The board in the South end zone (depicted above) will be 41.5-by-164 feet, equaling the size of 1,700 37-inch televisions. The one in the North end zone (the lighthouse side) will be 45-by-100 feet. The old ones were 27-by-48 feet.

* The screens feature 5 million individual LED pixels, and are capable of showing 4.4 trillion shades of color.

* The process of taking down the old boards has already begun. Kraft said on Monday night that they'd be ready for the regular season opener, and he hoped -- but couldn't guarantee -- to have them set for the first preseason game on Aug. 12. At least one of them should be operational by then.

And now for the team statement ... "With the size of these boards, along with the vivid color, image clarity and their graphic capabilities, these high-definition video boards come alive," said The Kraft Group President Jonathan Kraft. "The resolution is incredible. This type of video board simply didn’t exist eight years ago when the stadium was built. It is amazing to see how far the video technology has come in the past decade and it’s exciting to anticipate what in-game technological advancements will be made during the next decade."
