But the comical, high-pitched exchange between Adalius Thomas and Shawn Springs during Thomas' post-banishment press chat -- when Springs interrupted Thomas with a sing-songy "sorrrrr A.D." and Thomas replied with a similar "sorrrry Shawn" -- was borne of a joke between the teammates.
Cooking up chicken and pork bathed in his A.D.licious marinade at The Main Course's grill-off in Canton, Thomas revealed the origin of the exchange.
While in London for the Patriots' game with Tampa Bay, several teammates went out to dinner. At the end of dinner, everyone put their credit cards in a pile, and one was drawn at random -- that player had to pay for the entire dinner.
The player who lost that night had some issues with the card, and the waitress returned to the table using a high-pitched "sorry" to break the news to him.
It became a joke among the players at the dinner, but it was used as evidence that Springs was a bad locker room guy after he was released this week.
Thomas was asked if he saw how the timing of the exchange may have been a bit ill-advised, but he believes it was spun into a negative.
"If you're looking for something, you can find it," he said. "That right there wasn't a problem. Shawn wasn't a problem at all -- if he was, say it before he was cut."
Thomas said it is a "different" feeling being unemployed, but "you pray to God and let him handle it."
